If you cram too many watts into a short tube, you’re going to scorch your material or fry the lamp way before its time. We spend our time tweaking the electrode spacing and the gas fill. Why? So the UV output is steady and even across the whole web. No dead spots. No surprises.
Picking Materials (And Dealing with the Heat)
We use high-purity fused quartz for the envelopes because it lets the most UV light through. Simple as that. Sometimes, we add special coatings to block the infrared radiation. This is a lifesaver if you’re working with PET or thin plastic films that would otherwise melt or warp. But remember, high-output lamps gethot. Like, really hot. If you’re running a heavy-duty custom array, your cooling fans or water jackets need to be up to the task. If they aren’t, that quartz is going to crack from the thermal shock, and that’s a headache nobody wants.
